The 165 cm version of the Elements Gen II in Midnight Stone is aimed at those seeking a compact yet spacious 3-person rooftop tent . The dark grey Midnight Stone design with a black roof blends harmoniously into alpine landscapes and rocky terrain, making it particularly popular with overlanders who frequently travel in the mountains or rugged wilderness.
Based on the first Elements model, the Gen II version has been optimized in numerous areas. The result is a well-designed pop-up roof tent that ideally combines stability, comfort, and reliability.

Compatible with all roof racks
The Elements Gen II can be mounted on platform carriers or classic crossbars. Important: The vehicle's dynamic roof load must be high enough to safely support the tent's weight.
Weatherproof companion for every season
The tent fabric is made of a high-quality 300 g/m² canvas (35% cotton / 65% polyester).
The water column is:
- 2000 mm at the main tent
- 3000 mm at the flysheet

Flexible telescopic ladder
The black telescopic ladder makes getting in and out easier and can be flexibly adjusted in length – ideal also for vehicles with increased ground clearance.
Sky-View – A view into the night
The two skylights offer you an unobstructed view of the starry sky. If needed, they can be completely darkened – perfect if you want to sleep in longer in the morning.
LED interior lighting for a pleasant atmosphere
The rooftop tent features integrated LED lighting controlled by a dimmer switch. Three light colors are available – for functional or cozy lighting, depending on the time of day.
Mosquito nets, storage space & shoe bag
All openings – entrance, side windows and skylights – are equipped with mosquito nets.
In addition, the tent offers:

The Elements in Midnight Stone is our most modern foldable roof tent – like the Ocean version in navy blue, but in a more subtle and timeless colour tone. The second generation is based on the successful first model and has been significantly improved in design, handling and comfort.

What are the advantages of a folding tent?
A folding roof tent is particularly attractive to buy because it's significantly cheaper – however, you should allow a little more time for setup and takedown. Thanks to its low weight, this type of tent is very well suited for vehicles with a lower permissible roof load. At the same time, you benefit from plenty of usable space: especially when traveling with children, a folding tent offers ample room for comfortable nights. Another advantage is the tent's generous overhang, which automatically creates a sheltered, shaded area. This often eliminates the need for an additional awning.
For which vehicle models is the Elements Gen II roof tent suitable?
The Elements roof tent fits any car with sufficient roof load capacity. This is usually even the smallest car. All you need is a suitable roof rack to which you can attach the roof tent. You can find roof racks at horntools, but the roof tent is also compatible with other roof rack brands.
How heavy is the Elements roof tent?
The Elements Gen II varies in weight depending on its width and the number of people using it:
- 140 cm – 2 persons: 73.3 kg including ladder (66.5 kg without ladder)
- 165 cm – 3 persons: 77.3 kg including ladder (70.5 kg without ladder)
- 220 cm – 4 persons: 97.8 kg including ladder (91 kg without ladder)
We deliberately specify the weights including the ladder, as this can be stored directly in the roof tent during travel and therefore does not require any additional storage space in the vehicle. If necessary, the ladder can of course also be transported inside the car.
Do I need any additional accessories for the roof tent?
The Elements roof tent comes complete with all the necessary basic equipment – including mounting tools. This means: simply mount the roof tent and enjoy your freedom immediately. An optional awning can be added, providing extra space and a sheltered area in windy or rainy weather.
Is the tent storm and waterproof?
Absolutely! You can use the Elements roof tent without worry, even in heavy rain. Thanks to its sturdy construction, the tent can withstand even strong winds.
How many people is the Elements roof tent suitable for?
This depends on the size. We offer the Elements roof tent in widths of 140, 165, and 220 cm. The sleeping area is always 230 cm long.
The 140cm roof tent comfortably sleeps two adults. The 165cm version offers ample space for two adults and a child. The 220cm version features two ladders and a partition, providing two separate rooms with entrances and enough space for up to four people.
Which mattress is in the Elements Gen II?
In the Elements Gen II, a particularly comfortable 8 cm cold foam/memory foam mattress ensures outstanding sleeping comfort – a detail that many customers cite as a decisive reason for choosing a horntools roof tent. The mattress remains permanently stored in the tent and offers a comfortable sleeping position for both shorter and taller individuals. For a consistently dry interior climate, a 3D mesh is integrated beneath the mattress, allowing continuous ventilation and reliably preventing the formation of moisture or mold.
Is the Elements Gen II available in other colors?
Yes, the Elements Gen II is available in Ocean in addition to the Midnight Stone version. If you prefer blue or want something a bit more eye-catching, the Ocean version offers a fresh alternative.
